“Bye Bye Birdie” was Rachel Bilson’s first high-profile stage appearance. She played a prominent part in the play and used that experience to jump start her career. Following “Bye Bye Birdie” she appeared in two more stage plays: “The Crucible” and “Once Upon a Mattress”.

A major role was offered to Bilson in “It’s True in 1998” but CBS could not find financing for it. She did not let this incident discourage her in any way. She continued looking for roles and did a commercial for Subway before being able to stand on her own. In 2003, Bilson had lucky luck by her side because she made an appearance in an episode of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “8 Simple Rules… for Dating My Teenage Daughter” before she landed the lead role in “Unbroken”, a small film.

Bilson’s exposure earned her an invitation to audition for Fox’s TV hit “OC.” The series fit Bilson to a T. When the series debuted in 2003, Bilson became the new talk of the town, appearing in the covers of Zink, CosmoGirl, Stuff and YM
